Dr. Avecillas has 25 years of experience in sleep medicine for children and adults. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center in Miami, FL. In addition, he completed his fellowship in pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Board-certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonary disease and sleep medicine, Dr. Avecillas has also served as a clinical instructor at Miller School of Medicine and is a member of several professional organizations.
Dr. Avecillas prides himself in promoting proper sleep to help alleviate many common illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, restless leg syndrome, depression, asthma, and migraines. Bringing new technology and techniques into sleep medicine has allowed Dr. Avecillas to run a state of the art lab.
He believes that as a Sleep medicine specialists he treat his patients via advising them on sleep hygiene, providing cognitive behavioral therapy, using light therapy, or medical sleep aides. His multimodal approach is the cornerstone of Sleep Life Centers success in treating patients with sleep disorders.
